The Georgetown Healthcare Alliance, a program of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, is strongly encouraging the community to get their flu shot.
While the United States remains focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to also be aware of flu season as we approach the cooler months. Influenza (flu) viruses typically spread in fall and winter, with activity peaking between December and February. Getting vaccinated now can lower your chances of getting the flu.
According to the CDC “Getting the flu shot is more important than ever during 2020-2021 to protect yourself and the people around you from the flu, and to help reduce the strain on healthcare systems responding to the COVID-19 pandemic”. The flu vaccine can prevent you from getting the flu and lessen the symptoms if you do contract the virus. The vaccine also acts as an important preventative tool to lower the risk for children, pregnant women, and those with a chronic illness.
